Whistler Fromagerie

Completed 2024

Fueled by the belief that a great pairing of food and wine can be a casual affair, Flute & Fromage, a 41 sqm shop nestled in Whistler, BC, celebrates the cosmopolitan cheesemonger while embodying the relaxed spirit of ski culture.

Embracing spatial challenges, the design incorporates refrigeration units as intentional features. A custom, semi-circle cheese case connects the grab-and-go area with the cash counter, maximizing flow while maintaining visual harmony.

The material palette—a blend of chiselled stone, raked plaster walls, glossy blue-stained Douglas fir, and walnut-panelled millwork—evokes the rugged charm of an upscale shop in the mountains, bringing depth and warmth to the space. Colours inspired by 1980s ski culture inject energy, while contemporary elements balanced with traditional finishes ground the design, embodying the cosmopolitan cheesemonger with a laid-back, mountain-town vibe.
